In 2016 I was driving at night on the interstate from Helena to Billings. About 40 miles from home, in the middle of nowhere, I hit something on the road and destroyed my tire. A Sheriff from the nearest town stopped to check on me. I told him AAA would be there in about 90 minutes. He thought that was ridiculous and tried to change the tire himself. When he couldn’t, he radioed for a tow truck. His next call was to his wife to tell her he’d be late for dinner. He proceeded to sit with me and wait so I wasn’t alone in God knows where, in the dark. He said, “I will sit in my truck, here’s my cell phone, call me. I don’t want you to have to sit in the car with a stranger.“ He was a Deputy Sheriff from Park City and I regret not getting his name.
