Way back in the day, I was raising three kids on my own. We were heading to a wrestling meet in Billings, MT from Helena. Somewhere around Laurel, MT I noticed the fuel was getting low in our lil' old Plymouth Acclaim. I told the kids no worries ....we can make it with no problem. Just a few miles down the road we ran out of gas. No cell phones back then, pitch black and no traffic. As I sat there pondering what to do, a car pulls up behind us. Scared, I locked the doors and then I see some flashing lights appear. What a relief. I explained our situation and of course our Montana Highway Patrol came to the rescue. We happened to be only a mile away from an exit with a small gas station. He said, “Can you steer if I push?” Nervously, I shook my head yes. He actually pushed our car down the highway with his vehicle and right into the station. The patrolman even paid for our gas. Forever thankful.
