On July 15th, while traveling to work I saw a plume of black smoke coming from a neighborhood. The car in front of me and I rushed to inspect and found a garage fire. The flames were shooting up to the second story. When we arrived a mother and her young son came running out of the house. We asked if anyone was left inside. She said that her three dogs and a cat were inside. The fellow neighbor and I ran in to get the dogs, but couldn’t find the cat. Other neighbors went from house to house knocking on doors to get everyone to evacuate. As we were in the house we heard a couple of smaller explosions. Very quickly the Fire Department and Sparks PD arrived on scene and immediately got to work. They were able to stop the fire miraculously before it reached any other homes. Additionally, one of the Firefighters came running out of the burning house with the cat! The homes are built close to one another, so their quick actions truly prevented a neighborhood from going up in flames. The bravery of these Firefighters, Sparks PD, and EMTs/Paramedics on scene was remarkable! They took the mother and son into the ambulance to check them out and they were able to walk away from the whole ordeal uninjured. Thank you so much to our incredible Firefighters, LEOs, and Medics for all of your hard work and bravery.
